In yet another stark reminder of how intertwined today’s automotive business is, General Motors announced on Thursday that is suspending production at its Shreveport Assembly in Louisiana for the week of March 21 because of a parts shortage resulting from the crisis in Japan that started with last week’s tremendous earthquake and tsunami.
“We will resume production at Shreveport as soon as possible, and at this point, we have sufficient vehicles to meet customer demand,” General Motors said in a written statement.
The Shreveport Assembly in Louisiana produces the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon compact pickup trucks.

So, let's say your GMC Sierra pickup truck has landed upside down into a partially frozen lake, and you want to pull it out. Common sense says you should chain the truck on the end that's closest to land. Well, the guys that found themselves in this situation opted to chain the other end of the truck with disastrous results for some, hilarious for others. Watch the video after the jump but be warned, it's NSFW unless you lower the volume.

General Motors is expanding a previous recall concerning a faulty rear-axle cross pin to include another 26,751 SUVs and trucks from the 2011 model year. Thanks to induction technology, mobile electronic devices, such as phones, can be wirelessly charged, just by placing them on special pads. At the 2011 CES in Las Vegas, General Motors announced plans to introduce the wireless charging technology in many future Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac products, beginning from the second half of 2012.

We first reported on the new GMC Sierra All Terrain HD Concept in mid-December, but since then, General Motors has released a slew of new photos. The updated gallery includes the first photos of the design study's interior that has been spruced up with higher quality and more luxurious materials than the standard Sierra, upon which it is based.
Set to debut at next week's North American International Auto Show, GMC says the concept model is an exploration of heavy-duty truck capability combined with greater off-road versatility. Even if the Sierra All Terrain HD Concept doesn't make it as is onto the road, chances are that it will inspire a future production version. Full HD gallery after the break.

GM Issues Separate Recalls on Cadillac CTS and Escalade, and Chevy and GMC Trucks
0 comments at 10:58 AMGeneral Motors is recalling close to 100,000 vehicles in two separate campaigns. In a posting with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration [NHTSA], GM said the first recall affects almost 96,000 Cadillac CTS sedans from the 2005-2007 model years over concerns that some of the vehicles have a condition in which repeated flexing of the passenger sensing system mat in the passenger seat may break the connection. The company said that if this occurs, the sensor may not detect the presence of a front seat passenger and will disable the air bag.

General Motors will be presenting an ultra-tough concept study based on the four-door 2011 GMC Sierra HD pickup truck at the rapidly approaching Detroit Motor Show in mid-January. The GMC Sierra All Terrain HD study is highlighted by its rough n' tough exterior design and enhanced all-road capability.
Shorter in overall length than production Sierra HD models, the concept boasts a unique five-foot, eight-inch Crew Cab/short box body configuration with the wheels pushed to corners of the vehicle.
It also features a wider, 73-inch (1,853 mm) track for greater stability and approximately 3 inches (76 mm) greater ground clearance for a total of 21.1 inches (536 mm) at the rockers and 11.8 inches (300 mm) at the skid plates.

Huge Truck, Disappointing Rear Legroom
The heavy duty truck wars are heating up, and until recently the Ford Super Duties have been the only place for luxury truck buyers to go. The Denali nameplate already exists in the GMC showroom on the half ton Sierra. The Denali HD is more of a trim package then a complete package. The front and rear bumpers are painted , while the upper and lower grilles are finished in signature Denali chrome. You can only get the Denali HD in three colors: black, silver and white. Overall, the Denali trim is a very nice looking package on an already good looking truck.
The interior of the Denali HD is similar to any other loaded up GMC Sierra. This seems out of place on a truck of this price. This truck would not fall into that category.
The RAM Heavy Duty is the only one of the three heavy duty trucks that does not use Urea injection in the exhaust system. Driving the Denali HD was an enjoyable experience. The steering was light, with decent on center feel for a truck of this size. With an as tested sticker price of $58,199, is the new Denali HD king of the luxury trucks? The Denali HD is a very understated type of luxury, while the new Super Duty King Ranch is a very in your face, larger-than-life luxury. Between the terrific powertrain and great looks, this new Denali HD really does turn heads.
GMC Acadia Denali Styling
Like Denali versions of the full-size Yukon SUV and the big Sierra pickup truck, this top-end GMC Acadia Denali is highlighted by distinctive Denali design elements. Front-door step-in height is a relatively low 18.9 inches; rear door, 19.8 inches. GMC Acadia Denali Power
All models, including the Acadia Denali, hold a 3.6-liter VVT (variable valve timing) V-6 engine with gasoline direct injection, generating 288 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque, driving a six-speed automatic transmission. With front-wheel drive, the Acadia Denali earns an estimate from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of 17 mpg in city driving and 24 mpg on the highway. Special Denali design features include unique lower fascias (front and rear), body-colored lower cladding and rocker moldings, body-color rear fascia and fender flares, and dual chrome exhaust tips. Distinctive bodyside moldings have chrome accents and Denali badging. The Acadia Denali rides on two-tone, chrome-clad, six-spoke 20-inch wheels, versus 18- or 19-inch tires for other Acadias. GMC Acadia Denali Interior
Perforated leather upholstery features matching leather door-panel trim. Heated/cooled driver and front passenger seats are standard. The Acadia Denali's Dual SkyScape sunroof includes a sliding front panel and a fixed rear section.
